Just a Closer Walk with Thee

Today’s Musing is from Margaret Fowler. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us. —Ephesians 5:2a (NKJV) I am weak, but Thou art strong, Jesus, keep me from all wrong I’ll be satisfied as long, As I walk, let me walk close to Thee. (Author unknown) We all long for a closer walk with our Lord. Let’s think about walking, something we do every day. Growing up in England, we walked a lot! We didn’t have a car until after the war, so it meant walking, biking, bus, or train, but mostly walking. So, still today, I continue to walk. Especially after some issues with my heart, I decided to make it a priority to have a daily walk. It is truly a […] Read more »

Noticing God in Ordinary Moments

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. —Isaiah 40:31 NLT This has been a rainy year for my state. In fact, New Hampshire had the rainiest summer on record, with more than 21 inches of rain. That is a lot of wetness. So, when the skies turned blue in October, I was out on my deck every day, even if for just a few precious minutes, soaking in the blue and the sunshine and the lack of precipitation. One day, as I sat there admiring the trees and reflecting on my busy speaking schedule ahead, two magnificent eagles soared past, […] Read more »

Learning How to Rest - A Selah Day Away

Learning How to Rest – A Selah Day (click here to print a copy here) Of all the activities you do this week, this just might be the most important. Absolutely nothing beats time alone with God. Just you and Him. And this is what is ahead of you today! Seek Him first in this day or part of a day, and then? If you wish, […] Read more »

Christ in You the Hope of Glory

To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. —Colossians 1:27 NKJV If you closely guard and treasure your alone times and your privacy, then the position of President of the United States just might not be the job for you. The Secret Service was formed on July 5, 1865, as part of the Department of Treasury for the sole purpose of combating rampant counterfeiting that was racing across the nation. They moved into the field of presidential protective services under President Theodore Roosevelt’s administration after President William McKinley was assassinated in 1901. This protection begins from the moment the presidential hopeful enters the race […] Read more »

Ups and Downs

“The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation; This is my God, and I will praise Him; My father’s God, and I will exalt Him.” —Exodus 15:2 NASB My childhood playground had a seriously fast merry-go-round, monkey bars, a swing set, and seesaws. All the equipment was fun, but the seesaws alone required that you trust another person. Consequently, there were times I found myself on the seesaw with a not-so-nice “friend” who would hop off without warning, leaving gravity to do its work. She always found this hilarious, but I was left bruised. Life can be like a seesaw, can’t it? One day, you have your dream job, and the next, you’re being laid off. One year, your marriage […] Read more »

This Calls for Patient Endurance

This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus. –Revelation 14:12 NIV Life is not always full of rainbows and puppies and days at the beach. We know this. Still, it’s not easy to accept at times. We want life to be easy. We’d like everything to go well. When it doesn’t, we do our best to change our circumstances or fix our problems so we can get back to being happy again. But what happens when life becomes one long, dreary slog through an endless mud puddle? What then? I found myself in a hard place late last spring when I suddenly lost my hearing. It was a strange sensation to […] Read more »
