Day Fourteen - Luke 1:39-56

Oh, I did love this passage, today. SO rich and I had a whole brand-new thought as I read it. I love how God's word is living and active. You can read the same passage 100 times and yet ... there's still something to learn!! What did God show you as you read? If you have time, comment below and share with us. My verse: Luke 1:56 "Mary stayed with Elizabeth about three months and then went back to her own home." Reading this passage was so joyful, Lord! Elizabeth's amazing greeting to Mary - somehow KNOWING Mary carried the Messiah in her womb ... Mary's beautiful song of praise - in awe of how You choose the humble, the tiny, the insignificant, to bring […] Read more »

Day Thirteen - Luke 1:26-38

If you have the time, please share your verses and comments below. Looking forward to what God shows you! My verse: Luke 1:35 "The angel replied, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and He will be called the Son of God." And here it is. In this verse in Luke. God distilled to baby - embryo in a womb of a virgin. Father God, the miracle and mystery of this is so profound! Jesus. Born from Mary, but the Son of God. Legally, Joseph's son - who was in the line of David. Thank You for entering our human world ... for leaving infinite glory […] Read more »

Day Twelve - Luke 1:1-25

And we are finally in the New Testament, ladies! The yearning and longing of the Old Testament studies is over and here we are ... re-living the beginning of the coming of Christ through our study of God's Word. Please share your verses and comments below. My verse: Luke 1:3-4 (I know. That's two verses. But 4 alone does not make as much sense ...) "Having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I also have decided to write an accurate account for you, most honorable Theophilus, so you can be certain of the truth of everything you were taught." My thoughts: Lord God, I'm so grateful for Dr. Luke and his meticulous research! I love that my faith is anchored in historical FACT. Elizabeth and […] Read more »

Day Eleven - Micah 5:1-5a

This little tiny portion of scripture encompasses Jesus' first and second comings, according to scholars. Wow. Micah saw both as a prophet and wrote it down, described, to us. Oh, what a JOY it is to have a Savior! Here are my thoughts below. As always, feel free to share yours in the comments. My verse: Micah 5:1-5a "And He will be the source of peace." My prayer/response: Oh Lord Jesus, help me to learn this lesson well. My peace does not come from a perfect house or a well-behaved family or financial security. None of these things are actually even possible. My peace has its source in YOU. Because no matter what I face, You are with me, holding my little hand in Your […] Read more »

Day Ten - Isaiah 9:1-7

Wasn't it wonderful to read this amazing prophecy? Please share your verses and comments below. Looking forward to what God shows you! My verse: Isaiah 9:4a "For you will break the yoke of their slavery and lift the heavy burden from their shoulders ..." Oh Father, the readings about the four women in Jesus' genealogy were heavy ... stories of deceit and betrayal, war and famine and murder and deaths. I thank You for showing me the hard reality of life for all who have not come to the Savior. That heaviness is still here today, in so many. Oh, But With Jesus ... seen way in advance by Isaiah ... the burden is "lifted from their shoulders!" Oh Lord, when we come to You […] Read more »

Day Nine - 2 Samuel 12:1-25

Today, we looked at the last of the four women mentioned in Jesus' genealogy. What a group!! Please share your verses and comments below if you wish. I love to read your insights, and others might want to read them as well. And Well Done for sticking with this! Some of these stories have been tough. But ... taken all together ... we see the great need for a Savior, don't we? And, we see the honesty of the Biblical accounts: it's real history. And real history is not always pretty. Starting tomorrow, we turn a corner and anticipation builds for the story of Christ's coming. YAY!! My verse today: 2 Samuel 12:24 "Then David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and slept with her. She became […] Read more »

Christmas Meditations - A Deep Longing

This series combines a study of God’s Word with a Christmas carol or song. This week’s song is John Mason Neale’s English translation of the ancient hymn “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.” O come, O come, Emmanuel And ransom captive Israel That mourns in lonely exile here Until the Son of God appear “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). —Matthew 1:23 NIV Have you ever longed for someone to return to you? I sure have. I remember the Christmas spent apart from my husband, Ray, during the Persian Gulf War. I was in Germany with two little girls, far from my family and my country, while my husband was in […] Read more »

Day Eight - Ruth 4

Please share your verses and comments below. We all gain so much from reading each other's revelations from the Word of God! Well, dear ones, we are back to the customs of another culture, aren't we? It's still the same general principle we saw with Judah and Tamar. If a widow has no children, then the closest relative is duty-bound to marry her and give her a child to carry on the legacy of her first husband. If you have not read the story of Ruth before, and if you have time, I encourage you to read all four chapters to get the full picture. We only looked at Ruth and Boaz's marriage, today, in chapter four. Here are my thoughts. I can't wait to read […] Read more »

Day Seven - Joshua 2

DAY SEVEN - Joshua 2. Write out your verse and comments below, friends! Today, we look at the second woman mentioned in Jesus' genealogy and she, too, is a strong woman with a strange story! Hope God spoke to you as you pondered the passage, this morning. Here are my thoughts: My verse: Joshua 2:11 "No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the LORD your God is the Supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below." What an amazing declaration of belief coming from a woman trapped in an awful place, where child sacrifice and ritual prostitution were common and life for women was hard. Who knows what horrors Rahab […] Read more »
