June 4 Notes

June 4. Proverbs 3 Welcome back for our second day studying Proverbs. I wish I didn't have to skip ANY chapters, but in order to also take a peek at Song of Songs and Ecclesiastes as well as Solomon's life, I had to make tough choices. I have always loved Proverbs 3, though. So, of course we needed to do this full and rich chapter. Did you find a nugget of truth in this chapter? More than one nugget? If you ever want to share what God has shown you, I welcome comments. 🙂 So ... now that you've read and studied, have a look at my thoughts and what God showed me, today: I chose Proverbs 3:17. This is one of many verses that […] Read more »

June 3 Notes

June 3. Proverbs 1 Hello everyone, we spent the weekend looking at Solomon's start in life. Now, we are going to start examining some of his sayings in Proverbs. He asked for wisdom and God gave it. So, these sayings are wise and good and true. Do remember, though, that a proverb is not a promise for everyone at every time. Not everyone who wakes early and works hard lives a long life, for example. But the probability is, that if you work hard and are diligent you will live a long life. I like how the Navigators word this in their LifeChange book on Proverbs. Let me quote it for you here: "It is important to note that the proverbs are not intended to […] Read more »

Seven Steps to a Spiritually Sweet Summer

Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually! —1 Chronicles 16:9-11 ESV I don’t know about you, but for our family when summer hits, everything changes. For as long as I can remember, since my husband is a schoolteacher, summertime has been a time for slowing down and recovering from an intense year of activity. I love the break in our routine. I enjoy having him around more and plotting and planning bike trips and ocean walks and ice cream tasting times. What I don’t love, however, is the way routine changes can interrupt a […] Read more »

June 2 Notes

June 2. 1 Kings 1:24-53 Happy Sunday, dear ones!  We've moved rather quickly from Solomon's birth to his accession to the throne. There is nothing written about him as a little boy. We can only imagine what it must have been like to live in a palace with many half-brothers and sisters. But in today's reading, Solomon's dad, King David, unequivocally chose him to sit on the throne and rule Israel. Amazing. After you have done your own study and written out verse and response ... take a look at my responses here: I chose 1 Kings 1:33.  "he (King David) said to them: 'Take your lord's servants with you and set Solomon my son on my own mule and take him down to Gihon." June 1. 2 Samuel 12:1-25 Today, we read about Solomon's inauspicious beginnings. He was born to a couple that had created a huge scandal in Israel. His older brother did not live long. And here is this second child born to David and Bathsheba, a comfort to his mother who had lost so much: her first husband, her reputation, her firstborn son. Have you read this passage for yourself and found a verse to record and then responded? If so ... keep reading. If not ... go request God's help, read the passage, record a verse and write a response. THEN come back and read on: I chose 2 Samuel 12:1-25 as my verse: "Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and he went to her […] Read more »
