November 28 – 2 Samuel 7:8-26
Hope. This is such a wonderful “hope” passage! It starts out with God saying “no” to King David, who desired to build a temple honoring Him. It progressed to God’s amazing promise that from David’s line would come an everlasting kingdom and it ended with David’s stunned amazement that he, of all people, flawed and sinful and small, would be honored in this way. This is why the lineage of Jesus listed in Matthew and in Luke is so supremely important. The hope of Israel – Messiah – was to come through David’s line. I loved the words “lasting” and “everlasting” that were repeated in this passage. God was never going to withdraw His love from David’s line. He might chastise and punish, but His favor would continue and Messiah – our Jesus – would come. No matter how foolish His people might be! Now there’s a hope they could hold on to! And we have seen the fruit of it.
My verse: 2 Samuel 7:20-21a “What more can I say to you? You know what your servant is really like, Sovereign LORD. Because of your promise and according to your will, you have done all these great things …”
My response: I love David’s humility. He knows how unworthy he is and he’s fully aware that You, dear Father, know him through and through. It’s because of Your promise and Your will that it’s all transpired. Give me that perspective, Lord. You know me, too. And any good thing in me is only because of You.

Thank you, Sharon for guiding us through these Scriptures. I found it helpful to read yesterday’s response to my verse as I moved into today’s passage.
You are so welcome, Lyn. What a great idea … to read the commentary on the previous day as an entree into today’s lesson. Glad you found that helpful.
I have been with you wherever you have gone v9a. God has been with be since birth and now more than ever I feel his presence. He has brought me so very far. Guiding me, strengthening me and loving me. I humbly accept all you have brought into my life and stand on your promises Amen
“Guiding, strengthening, loving.” Oh Debbie. SO True! He does all this for His own. I love belonging to Him!
My verse was 2 Samuel 7:22 where it says, how great You are oh Sovereign Lord! There is no one like You and there is no God BUT You, as we have heard with our own ears.
My response is Hallelujah, praise God!! There is no one like our God! Amen! I like to give God my Praises especially when He has fought my battles. I find it hard at times to praise Him in the bad times but I’m learning, always learning. God has given me a few instances lately to show my gratitude and praises even when things don’t go my way. He knows what’s best for me and I find myself relinquishing my control for his Almighty control. How great is our Sovereign Lord! Praise be to our God!!
Oh how wonderful it is when we relinquish that control for His perfect and wise control. Amen, Kami! I am still learning to do this. Some situations are harder than others, but it’s always wisest and best to yield to HIM.
