WEEK 2: David- The Courage to Look Past Circumstances

WEEK 2: David- The Courage to Look Past Circumstances

March 9 – 1 Samuel 17:1-58

Request: Lord, as I read the story of David and Goliath I pray that you would fill me with the courage to face circumstances that don’t look the way I want them to.  Often times, I want to default to natural results, but God, when you are a part of something, you can go beyond the natural results.  You can do far more than we can ever imagine.  You defy the natural and make your glory shine.

Read: 1 Samuel 17:1-58, the story of David and Goliath

Record: Record a key verse. What new things did you learn about this classic bible story?

Respond: Write a prayer responding to God about the verse you just read.  Let’s not just pick a verse and move on.  Let’s interact with God about it.

Question to Ponder:  What is the impossible circumstance David is facing?  What is an impossible circumstance you are facing?

My Ponder:

David is facing taking down a giant significantly bigger than him with a slingshot and rock.  My circumstance feels the same for me right now.  I feel like there is a giant in front of me and I feel ill-equipped. It’s hard to know the next step or process but this story of David reminds me I am equipped with the power of God and because of that I can battle anything in front of me.  Can I get an Amen?  Amen for sure.

My verse: 1 Samuel 17:32, “And David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”

My Response: Lord, when you are with me and fighting for me there is no giant too big that you can’t conquer.  When I want to look at the giants in my life and cower in fear, remind me that you are the one fighting for me, and I can confidently stand and fight.

My impossible situation: I am facing a very busy spring, with many commitments. It’s all SO good. But SO much! Some days it feels impossible, but if I take it one day at a time and truly trust God to help me do what He desires … I can be at peace in the midst of the wonderful but occasionally overwhelming opportunities.

My verse: I Samuel 17:47 “And everyone assembled here will know that the LORD rescues his people, but not with sword and spear. This is the LORD’s battle, and he will give you to us!”

My response: What a beautiful truth. You rescue Your people!! Thank You, God, for the ultimate rescue, freeing us from the penalty of death that we deserve by the blood redemption of Your Son. Not by sword and spear, but by Your great love. I thank You for my rescue. Help me, like David, to show by words and actions, just how awesome You are – You, the God who Rescues us.
