So … why is it so important we read the Bible? Why can’t we just read other Christian books that kind of explain it to us? Good question. We read the Bible because:
-
- It’s literally God-breathed, according to 2 Timothy 3:16. So. No other book is THAT.
- It’s an offensive weapon against the enemy of our souls. When he accuses us or condemns us or lies to us? We fight back with the Word of God. Which we can’t do if we don’t know it. Right? See Matthew 4 and marvel at how Jesus “fought back” when He was tempted with Scripture. Every. Single. Time.
- God speaks through His Word. He does. It’s not a “dead book.” Hebrews 4:12 tells us that ” … the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” When we read, God speaks to us. It’s amazing.
So, as we do our daily quiet times this December, we will read the Actual Words of God in the Bible. Wow. Get ready, because you will have Requested His help before you Read His Word and I believe He will speak to you!
