October 28 – Revelation 4

Dear Lord God, we come before You in worship and praise, for You are the orchestrator of Your creation.  Be with us as we spend time with You, and guide us to what You want to show us.

Have you ever tried to explain beautiful scenery to someone who wasn’t with you? Can you fully explain the Grand Canyon or the Swiss Alps? No. There’s something about the grandeur of magnificent places that demands you actually be there to fully appreciate them. That’s kind of the way I see this chapter in Revelation. I read John’s words and marvel at strange creatures and rainbows of emerald and crystal sea. I know it must have been immensely awe-inspiring, but I can’t quite grasp it in its fullness. I’ll need to be there to truly sense the awe and worship surrounding the One on the throne. And, glory hallelujah, someday I will be there. Wow.

John’s descriptions of Heaven in Revelation are varied and amazing. There are the tall gates and the streets of gold and the river that runs through the city and the trees that have different fruit each season … so much that will be new and different and mind-boggling! Heaven is a real place. And it will be full of wonders and discoveries. But our favorite place will be that throne room, I suspect. There will be worship and joy so big our present bodies would not be able to experience it without bursting, I think! But along with the new Heaven and the new Earth will come new bodies in which to enjoy all God has prepared for those who love Him. Lord, hasten the day when our faith will become sight … !

My verse: Revelation 4:11, “You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power.  For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.”

My response: You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased. I worship You.
