October 27 – Revelation 3:14-22
Dear Lord God, we come before You in worship and praise, for You are the orchestrator of Your creation. Be with us as we spend time with You, and guide us to what You want to show us.
Whoa. God is not fond of indifference, is He? To walk through life totally oblivious to Him, thinking you’ve got all you need and giving no thought to Who gave it to you, is an offense of the highest magnitude to God our Creator, the Sustainer and Giver of life! God would rather us be hot OR cold than totally oblivious to the reality of the spiritual world. Sometimes being “rich” in the world’s eyes is a terrible thing. If we don’t think we have needs, we can be self-satisfied and look no further than our own immediate contentment. This is actually a danger we face in a country where most of us reading this, anyway, are well-fed and have a roof over our heads. Sometimes, having enough can blind us.
But did you notice how God still loves the people of Laodicea? “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends” (Revelation 3:20). He is still wooing these lukewarm believers who pay Him scant attention. Oh, how amazing His love is!! He doesn’t want to spit them out like lukewarm water. He wants to be close to them, abiding with them as the best Friend they could ever have. How kind our God is! Let’s not get too cozy in our spoiled little worlds. Let’s look outside our own affluent bubble and see the needs of a world lost and floundering. Let’s turn to the One who has a purpose for us beyond our own comfort with lasting rewards.
My verse: Revelation 3:19, “I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.”
My response: Thank You, Lord, that You discipline those You love and don’t just give up on us and watch us ruin our lives with some sort of smug satisfaction. Your love is pure and holy and fierce and pursuing. Your heart is for us. I am so grateful for Your mercy and Your persistent pursuit of those who are Yours. And yes, thank You for the discipline we often need to be brought back to You.
