March 5 –  Esther 6-9

Request: Lord, remind me that you are always with me.  You never ask me to enter into a situation without you.  I ask that you help me remember your ways are higher and victorious.  It is a privilege to be used mightily in your plan, I want to courageously speak and stand in the ways you are asking me.

Read:  Esther 6-9

Record:  Record a key verse and then write down what stands out as we look at the conclusion of Esther’s story.

Respond:  Write a prayer responding to God about the verse you just read.  Let’s not just pick a verse and move on.  Let’s interact with God about it.

Question to Ponder: What part of Esther’s story speaks to you about courage? What part of this story inspires you? At this point in the story, where do you see Esther rising to her calling confidently?

My Ponder:

I love how strategic Esther’s plan was and reading how it all rolled out.  Seeing all the little details fall into place and seeing how God honored her, Mordecai, and the Jewish people.  Esther standing in courage led to an entire people being saved.  And not just saved, they were victorious in battle and overtook.

My verse:  Esther 8:5-6, “And she said, “If it please the king, and if I have found favor in his sight, and if the thing seems right before the king, and I am pleasing in his eyes, let an order be written to revoke the letters devised by Haman the Agagite, the son of Hammedatha, which he wrote to destroy the Jews who are in all the provinces of the king. For how can I bear to see the calamity that is coming to my people? Or how can I bear to see the destruction of my kindred?”

My Response:  Lord, in difficult moments, I want to be like Esther.  In the moments when she needed it, you filled her with clear words and calm emotions.  She rose and spoke with clarity and humility.  Help me be more like her.

My verse: Esther 6:4a “Who is in the outer court?’ the king inquired. As it happened, Haman had just arrived …”

My response: Father God, help me to remember that no matter how terrifying an evil man with power can look, You are able to fell him at will. You are eternal and truly in charge. “As it happened …” Oh, that phrase made me smile! It happened because You willed it, Lord. You are in charge of all the details including when Haman would “happen” to enter the outer court. You alone reign forever, and the Haman’s of this world will be but dust before You. Thank You, Lord, for this morning smile! In Jesus’ Name, Amen

My ponder: I lingered over Bonnie’s prayer this morning, and was struck by this phrase: “you filled her with clear words and calm emotions.” What a gift God gave Esther in that scary time. Clear words and calm. That’s what I desire, too, when I am in sticky situations. Only with His help and by His grace!
