March 28 – Choose Your Own Passage

For your quiet time, choose your own passage that relates to what we have studied this week.  Did God put on your heart a certain passage that stuck with you? Did a particular Question to Ponder lead you to a passage that was not included in our readings?

Or, do you have a favorite passage that reminds you that we are not alone in our times of storms?

When the Spirit leads, share your verse and response in the comments.

First of all, BIG thanks to Bonnie for leading us to sit in these stories and learn about courage. SO many great lessons! One of my biggest takeaways has been that holy courage does not mean diving in wildly and impulsively to “fix things” – our heroes were deliberate, careful, and attentive to God’s commands. So … I decided to look at Jesus’ courage at the temple, today.

My verse: Mark 11:11 “So Jesus came to Jerusalem and went into the Temple. After looking around carefully at everything, he left because it was late in the afternoon. Then he returned to Bethany with the twelve disciples.”

My response: When Jesus cleared the Temple, then, it wasn’t a spur of the moment decision. I’ve always remembered that incorrectly. He looked carefully. He slept on it. When He does clear the Temple the next day, He backs what He’s doing with Scripture: Mark 11:17: “He said to them, ‘The Scriptures declare, ‘My Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations’, but you have turned it into a den of thieves.'” Jesus’ clearing of the Temple was a deliberate, thought out, scripture-based act of courage.

Thank You, Lord, for so many reminders that bold action doesn’t have to be impetuous – in fact – it shouldn’t be just emotion driven. Even when emotional, we should act in courage only after thought and prayer and an understanding of Your Word and Your desire for us.
