March 17 – Daniel 3:1-18

Request: Lord, thank you for the friendships you give that are founded in you. I ask that we would always be – in actions and words- the kind of friend that you are to us.

Read: Daniel 3:1-18; the test of faith

Record: Record a key verse and then what stands out to you in this part of the story.

Respond: Write a prayer responding to God about the verse you just read.  Let’s not just pick a verse and move on.  Let’s interact with God about it.

Question to Ponder: Have you ever had to stand alongside a friend in a difficult situation?

My Ponder:

I’m amazed that these three guys unite and stand confidently together.  No one even seems to waver. I may have been tempted to offer to stay back and watch over the other two friends’ wives and kids- ha!

There have been times in marriage I’ve had to stand with my husband in a situation on a biblical principle.  To know we have Jesus and each other helps the situation not feel so alone.

My Verse: Daniel 3:16, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.”

My Response:  Lord, help me be this bold and courageous.  That I would see the fire and still stand with my fellow believers.  That I would trust you no matter the outcome.

My verse: Daniel 3:18 “But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold stature you have set up.”

My response: In my other study right now, I’m reading Deuteronomy. I just finished chapter 7 this morning. Over and over in Deuteronomy, God makes it clear: You shall have no other gods before me … Father God, You will not allow worship of any thing or any one, for the truth is that You alone are God. How good it was that these three men knew this truth and believed it deeply. Whether You chose to save them or not, the truth did not change. I’m so thankful they had each other as they took their stand. I’m also very thankful that I don’t stand alone either, today. I have so many wonderful Christian siblings who stand with me on this glorious truth that You alone are God. There is no other.
