March 13 – 1 Samuel 18:1-5
Request: Lord, as we wrap up the story of David, show us any more truths you want us to see.
Read: 1 Samuel 18:1-5
Record: Record a key verse.
Respond: Write a prayer responding to God about the verse you just read. Let’s not just pick a verse and move on. Let’s interact with God about it.
Question to Ponder: What part of David’s story inspires you in your current impossible circumstance?
My Ponder:
I love the simplicity of David’s approach to Goliath and battles. King Saul gave him armor and swords, and David wanted his slingshot and some stones. This is a reminder to me to keep it simple. God doesn’t need anything to do His miracle. He just needs my willing heart.
My Verse: 1 Samuel 18:5, “And David went out and was successful wherever Saul sent him, so that Saul set him over the men of war. And this was good in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.”
My Response: Lord, I pray my life shows glorify and victory of you. May every success be accounted to your glory and your power.

My verse: 1 Samuel 18:1 “After David had finished talking with Saul, he met Jonathan, the king’s son. There was an immediate bond between them, for Jonathan loved David.”
Jonathan is a favorite of mine. Such a contrast to his father, who was jealous, fearful, ambitious. Like David, Jonathan was just Jonathan. He applauded David. He did not compare or envy. He was a friend who truly wanted David’s best – even at his own expense. Father, make me more like Jonathan!
My ponder: As I look back on “David Week” I applaud Bonnie’s title for the week: The Courage to Look Past Circumstances” – that’s what I want to remember. Don’t get trapped at what “feels” impossible with giants looming. Look past it to the God in charge. I enjoyed this study of David’s example of looking past the circumstances to the One who could help him – and did.
