June 17. Proverbs 24.
Hello friends, we are back in Proverbs again, finishing up our readings there this week. Today’s verse, for me, was a real zinger. I am thankful for strong words from a loving God that help me evaluate and act!
My verse: Proverbs 24:11-12 “Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, ‘But we knew nothing about this, does not He who weights the heart perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay each person according to what he has done?”
My response: Father, these words trouble me. They condemn those who turn a blind eye toward injustice. And so I have to ask … who are those who need rescue, today?
… unborn babies … refugees … foster children … sex trade victims … all who don’t know the saving grace of Christ.
Lord, how would You have me rescue? I can give funds, but is that enough? I can share the gospel with those who don’t know You .. please reveal to me any more You would have me do! SO many in this world – through war, poverty, and evil – are in danger of slaughter. Thank You for the sobering reminder that saying “I did not know” when I do know – is not enough. Help me to do what I can. Protect me, also though, from Satan’s darts, the accuser of my soul, who will twist this into something that make me feel condemned, no matter what I do. I look to You, Lord, for Your guidance with this.
