BUT GOD...

June 12 – Psalm 49

Dear Father, we come before You in praise and with thanksgiving for You give us our, ‘But God’ moments. You orchestrate our lives for Your glory. May we in our quiet time recognize You for who You are: our Lord God, the God of Israel.

First, do your own quiet time and 4R journaling.  When you are completed, come back here for the lesson.

Respond to God

But God ransoms our souls

One thing that is common for all humans is that we all will die and pass from this earth. Our time here is limited, a stop in our journey to the afterlife.  Because of sin we are born into it, we are condemned and sentence to death eternal. Because of sin we are doomed to a life and afterlife separated from the very one who created us.

We cannot buy ourselves out of it.  We cannot work ourselves out of it. Unlike non humans, we don’t just cease to exist after death, our spirit moves on.  Our spirit to be cast into Sheol, eternal damnation. Eternal knowledge of what could have been, what restoration could have been.  Without God there is death.   Without God there is no ransom paid.

But God!!!!!

But God made a way.  But God gave us Hope Himself, He ransomed our souls!  To capture us and bring us to safety.  To grab us from the grip of satan. But God saw the blood covering of grace and ensured that death passed over us.  But God!  We have been washed clean!

Why fear when troubles come?  Our lives here are not permanent, our permanence is in He who saved us!  May all that we do be done for the glory of Him who rescued us. May we keep a heart full of meditations, mouth full of wisdom and an ear or eye that is inclined toward He who crushed death.

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.”

Isaiah 43:2

(Further Reading: Luke 12:13-21; Luke 16; Psalm 48; 50)

We praise You Lord for You have paid the ransom for our souls!  We dance and sing before You, our arms raised to You in worship.  We thank You for rescuing us from death, for bringing us into Your fold and for loving us like no other could.  We love You!!!!!

Then join us again tomorrow for the next commentary.

My Verse: Psalm 49:14-15, “Like sheep they are appointed for Sheol; death shall be their shepherd, and the upright shall rule over them in the morning.  Their form shall be consumed in Sheol, with no place to dwell. But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me. Selah”

    Psalm 49:5 “Why should I fear when trouble comes, when enemies surround me?”

    What a bold statement of faith. Because You will redeem my life, because ultimately I’ll spend forever with You, because You’ll walk with me through the trouble … I can be assured that in the end, all will be well. I’m so thankful for the eternal perspective in this psalm, Lord. Such a good reminder when troubles come and they will. Thank You for Your steady Presence and the sure hope of Heaven. Help me to trust like this psalmist does!
