December 9 – Luke 1:35-55
Faith. We moved to the New Testament today and to one of the most beautiful songs of praise ever composed by an incredibly faith-filled woman, Mary the mother of Jesus. Her simple statement “May it be to me as you have said” contains so much humility and trust, doesn’t it? God said it and ordained it so she received it and not only accepted it but rejoiced in the honor bestowed upon her. This honor came at great personal cost to her reputation at the beginning of Jesus’ life and to her heart on the day of His crucifixion. How often I protest and complain when things don’t go as I wish! Mary’s entire life was upended and she simply, quietly received it from the Lord and lived out His plan for her life. May we all be better at receiving the hard things, the unexpected things, that God allows to enter our own lives. May our faith increase!
My verse: Luke 1:46 “Mary responded, ‘Oh now my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!”
My response: Lord, how amazing to watch Mary’s response to Your choice for her life! It meant a seismic shift in all her plans that could potentially ruin her upcoming marriage and definitely her reputation and yet … she responded with praise. She fully believed You. She surely knew she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Her response was joy. Worship. Total peace. Her song celebrated her faith in You, that You were in charge and You were (and still are to this day and forever) GOOD.
