December 8 – 1 Samuel 17:32-50
Faith. Today, still following faithful people, we got to take a peek at David, who was born and raised in Bethlehem and whose great-grandmother was our Ruth. We saw him in his most famous role. A kid who was confident that God was bigger than any giant and walked on out with his slingshot to prove it to the chagrin of the Israelite army that had trembled in fear of said giant for weeks and weeks. David’s faith was honed in obscure sheep pastures as he tended his father’s flocks. He saw God help him protect the sheep from lions and knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that nothing was too difficult for God. And down went that giant. Hallelujah! Oh Lord, give us faith like these two people from Bethlehem, Ruth and David. Help us to fight our giants as David fought Goliath.
My verse: 1 Samuel 17:37 “The LORD who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!”
My response: Trusting You in smaller situations (not that lions and bears are all that small) prepared David to trust You when fighting a giant. Father help me to trust You in all things so when or if times of persecution come, I’m able to withstand … and to stand.
5 Minute Selah Moment – time for a song. Sing a carol just for Jesus! (or, if that is too daunting, listen to one, whispering the words along with it.)
