December 4. Day Eight

Advent

WEEK TWO – FAITH

“The second candle represents faith and is called ‘Bethlehem’s Candle.’ Micah had foretold that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem, which is also the birthplace of King David.”  (Crosswalk.com)

December 4 – Psalm 36

Faith. God values faith. In fact, Hebrews 11:6 tells us that “ … it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.” Oh how He wants us to trust Him. To believe that He exists and that He reaches out through creation and story and history and His Spirit to call us to Himself in a love relationship like no other. He especially values faith in us when all the things we “see” seem to indicate He is not there. Even when He is. We are going to explore the faith of others in the Bible this week and ask God to strengthen our own. And because our second candle is also called “Bethlehem’s Candle” we are going to take special notice of the people of faith who came from that tiny little town. I love how God values the littles in this world – like you and me!

Psalm 36 is overflowing with faith, isn’t it? It declares God’s goodness despite the evil deeds of men. It also celebrates God’s faithfulness. How wonderful that our faith is in a faithful, never-changing God. This psalm reminds us of Who God Is. He is good, He is giving, He shelters us and cares for us. What a sweet way to start our “faith week!”

My verse: Psalm 36:9 “For you are the fountain of life, the light by which we see.”

My response: Lord Jesus, living water, fountain of life, light of the world … You are the light by which I see. Thank You for this verse that is echoed in Your words in the New Testament. I believe in these dark times that by You and Your words alone, I will still see that the path of faithfulness. Help me to walk it and to never lose my faith in You – the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

5 Minute Selah Moment – List before Him your blessings, today. What good things are in your life?
