December 24 – Luke 2:21-40
Peace. Oh, what a joy it is to meet Simeon and Anna, today. These two faithful ones were waiting for Messiah with a special fervor. Their HOPE had not waned. Their FAITH that God would send help was strong. Their JOY that day must have been immense as they realized they were looking at and literally holding God’s long-awaited Messiah! And even though they would die long before Jesus was old enough to rescue anyone, hear Simeon’s words:
“Sovereign Lord, now let your servant die in peace, as you have promised. I have seen your salvation, which you have prepared for all people.”
He was at peace. He trusted that the tiny baby he held in his arms would fulfill every promise and rescue His people. Simeon’s peace was not based on what was happening in his own life right then and there. His peace rested in the sure knowing that God would keep His promises, even if Simeon would die before he personally saw it. Our peace has to be in God. In eternity. In the spiritual realm. The things of earth cannot touch us when we are anchored in the truths of what is to come, and in the One who even now, holds all things together in His hands.
My verse: Luke 2:32 “He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel.”
My response: It’s the darkest time of the year and yet here we are celebrating the Light of the World. Our glorious Savior! And so, Lord Jesus, I do glory in this. I love that I know You. Thank You for loving the world – the nations – all mankind – whom You have created. Help my worship of You on Christmas to be real and true. In the midst of stockings and presents and wrapping paper everywhere, remind me of the greatest Gift ever given.
5 Minute Selah Moment – take the time to read all of Luke 2 out loud with your loved ones or all by yourself. Savor the familiar words and whisper a prayer of gratitude.
