December 21. Day Twenty-Five

Advent

December 21 – Matthew 1:18-24

Peace. Doesn’t Joseph sound like a peaceful man in this passage? He didn’t want to disgrace Mary. He would quietly deal with this frightening situation of his fiancée being pregnant – and certainly not because of him. And then the angel comes. And Joseph believes and takes on the incredible role of earthly father to Messiah and husband to Mary, who carried Christ in her womb. God gently dealt with this dear couple, of whom He asked much!

My verse: Matthew 1:21 “And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

My response: Joseph heard Jesus’ true mission before He was even born. Not “he will rescue Israel from Rome” but “He will save His people from their sins.” Oh Lord Jesus, Your purpose was steady and fixed from the beginning to the end of your earthly life. You came to take the just punishment we deserved for our sins on Yourself. You were born to save us. Thank You.

5 Minute Selah Moment – sit and think about the fathers in your life. Pray for them and ask God to help those fathers who are still living to be men of peace. Pray for them to be blessed by God and to know Him so well that they want to be men of peace. If you had a cruel father, pray for him anyway, and thank God that HE – your Heavenly Father – is truly a kind and merciful Abba toward you.
