December 2 – 1 Peter 1:13-25

Jesus, our Savior King, we praise You for You are Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace!!!! We thank You for You secure our peace! We fall before You in worship and adoration. Draw near to us, Lord of all.

Jesus always was, but for our sake, He came. I mean, come on! How do we as Jesus followers not fall down in worship and honor of Him because of that?!

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed the heir of all things, through whom also He created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of His power. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name He has inherited is more excellent than theirs.” Hebrews 1:1-4

As Jesus is described in the verses above, He came for you. For your sake. He came, died, and rose, so our hope can only be found in Him. Anything other will fade, and be destroyed. Any other hope, hope found in anything or anyone else, is not a confident trust. What are we to do with this hope, you may ask. Verse 13 tells us we are to prepare our minds for action, be sober-minded, and set our hope completely on grace. In other words, be wholly and completely focused on God. Put away from you what of this world is keeping you from that so you can focus on the grace that is coming. Because these are “the last times”…. We are in the last times already! Jesus’ return is drawing near and is imminent! Where is your hope placed? How is your Spiritual walk with God, your Spiritual life, going? The urgency of knowing Jesus will soon come should light a fire in our souls. It should cause us to pluck out what is keeping us from drawing near to Him and throw it aside with urgency! Where is our hope? Is it firmly placed in grace, or is it in things that surely will falter?

My Verse: “He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory so that your faith and hope are in God.” 1 Peter 1:20-21

My Response: Oh God, the giver of grace, the sender of Hope. On You, I place my hope, my trust, my life. Please give me the strength to loose the tethers that hold onto hindrances. With one thought You could end this earth. With one breath, blow away every speck of dust and, in its place, leave nothingness. An abyss of nothing. Yet You and Your infinite grace, You wait for all who You call to return to You, to actually return. My Shepherd, I adore You. My hope is You, and in You, I wait.

[13] Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

What a wonderful reminder of what Advent should be – a time to prepare our minds and put our focus on Jesus and His grace. A message not only for Advent but for each day.

Cheri – I love pondering that thought – to prepare my mind. A beautiful verse and absolutely resonates with Advent.

Sharon’s morning thoughts: Oh, Melissa. These sentences challenged me this morning in a wonderful, stirred up way: “The urgency of knowing Jesus will soon come should light a fire in our souls. It should cause us to pluck out what is keeping us from drawing near to Him and throw it aside with urgency!” Thank you for that.
My verse today: 1 Peter 1:20 “God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake.”
My response: From the start You knew we would need a Savior. And we celebrate Him this season as the One who left Heaven behind to enter our world as a tiny human, even going through labor and delivery into our messy planet. Thank You for coming, Lord Jesus! Thank You for the new life You bring: ” … Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.” Just … WOW. What a beautiful, priceless gift.
