December 16 – John 10:1-18
Joy. We’ve read God’s declaration that He is our Shepherd in the Old Testament. Now, God in flesh reminds us of this in the New Testament. God does not change. He shepherded His people back in the days of the prophets and He shepherds His people today. Jesus refers to those of us who are Gentiles in verse 16. We are now part of that sheepfold, too! Although even in the Old Testament, as we have seen, God loved the foreigners who turned to Him like Ruth did.
I love all the reassurances in this passage that our Shepherd is good and His desires for us are good. He wants us to live abundantly. He wants us to trust Him daily. He never leaves us no matter how dark the way. We are His. We belong. There’s joy in that. Yes, there is!
My verse: John 10: 4 “After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice.”
My response: He gathers us and then He leads us, going before us and making sure of the path. We follow because we know and trust Him. Lord Jesus, Shepherd of my soul, lead me. Help me to know Your voice and You so well that following is easy.
5 Minute Selah Moment – stop and pray for your days ahead, between now and Christmas. Bring every worry, every detail to Him and lay it at His feet, knowing He will care for you.
