November 30 – Luke 1:67-79
Hope. This prophecy-prayer from Zechariah, father of John the Baptist is just oozing hope and joy, isn’t it? He recalls the darkness. He remembers the promise to David. He marvels that he has lived to see the fulfillment and that his miracle baby will usher in the Messiah prophetically. Zechariah started out a bit cynical when we first meet him. He and his wife had been childless for their entire marriage and there was no hope left for a baby. Then Gabriel came and told him that the impossible would happen and he, despite looking at an angel in the Holy of Holies, could not quite believe it. He spent the nine months of John’s womb-time in silence. He had plenty of time to marvel at this incredible happening and mystery. When John is born? Zechariah lets loose this glorious prophecy filled with hope and promise! Let’s never forget that even in the darkest moments, when we have given up on light, God is still at work.
My verse: Luke 1:78 “Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us.”
My response: All the hopes … the yearnings … the years of silence and then comes the light of heaven – God Himself – visiting us. Oh Father God, no wonder Zechariah is singing!!
5 Minute Selah Moment – praise Him by whispering His many Names: You are Light, You are Love, You are my Shepherd …
