Please scroll down to find all the readings for this study. They will also be posted separately by the week.
We are so happy to be offering a brand new online Bible Study starting on the first Sunday of Advent. All you need to join us is a Bible, a journal, and a pen. Look to the side of your computer for the daily lessons or scroll down on your phone. Stop by here each day and read Sharon's commentary after completing the reading assignment. Leave a comment if you wish, sharing the Bible verse God highlighted for you. Watch for posts about this study to begin Thanksgiving week. The study itself will start on November 27. Let's prepare our hearts for this Christmas season ... together. You can read the Introduction below anytime before November 27. Be blessed!
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to our Sweet Selah Advent Bible Study 2022. So glad you’ve joined us as we prepare our hearts to celebrate one of the most momentous events in all of history: The Incarnation. God Himself wrapped in flesh, and come to live among us, feeling cold and hurt and rejection as well as all the joys of living on this still-beautiful but fallen planet. What a spectacular, incredible occurrence! Let’s think deeply and gratefully about Jesus and His birth together this month!
I chose to base this study on the four candles of Advent, exploring the Bible for verses and stories that highlight each incredible Christian attribute celebrated in Advent: HOPE, FAITH, JOY, PEACE. These attributes sustain us and help us through the hard times and enable us to thrive even then. They are blessings from God and each has significance as we remember Christ’s first coming and yearn for His return. Are you ready? Whether you have a candle to light or not … let’s explore each of these beautiful words in light of the coming of our Savior.
Directions for each day:
Request the Lord’s help as you read, asking Him to give you understanding.
Read the selected passage.
Record one verse from the passage in a notebook or journal.
Respond to God with a short prayer about that verse and why you chose it.
Then … read my commentary and see what verse I chose. If you wish, share your verse and response in the comments. It is so enriching to read what others discovered in the passage.
In addition, you will get a “5 Minute Selah Moment” suggestion each day. You don’t have to do these, but they might just give you a sweet excuse to stop later on in the day and savor the sweetness of this season. I hope they add to your hope, faith, love and joy this year. Are you ready? Let’s get started …
