December 17 – Lamentations 3:19-33

Jesus, our Savior King, we praise You for You are Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace!!!! We thank You for You secure our peace! We fall before You in worship and adoration. Draw near to us, Lord of all.

Do we recognize this passage? Of course we do! We just read these verses a couple weeks ago!
Funny, when I drafted this study, I actually had this passage twice… without even realizing it
until I started typing away! I had one for the week of Hope and the other for the week of Love! At first, I deleted the Hope version and kept this one. But when I was done typing and trying to find a new passage for Hope, God told me, “Go ahead, use it twice.” And why not? That’s what scripture is for, it is living and breathing. And it is wonderful. So, here I sit praying over you as I type that you will see this passage in a new way.

Jesus’ birth did not mean an end to our strife and hardship. And neither did His death. Though His birth, like His death, was a promise fulfilled. The promise that a child would be born, the perfect lamb for the perfect sacrifice. The perfect sacrifice to cover all of our sins. The promise that His love is steadfast and never-ending, so never-ending that it actually renews with each day that comes. What a reason to wake up every morning and immediately praise and thank Him! Right?! Praise and thank the God who always was, always is, and always will be.

“O come, O come, Emmanuel
And ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear
Rejoice, rejoice, Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel”

We who have long awaited Jesus’ return remain steadfast in Him; in Him we wait. For He IS coming, just as He promised long ago and kept that promise once. Thus, He is sure to keep His promise once again! So, hold onto that fact and know that Jesus is coming!

My Verse: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to end; They
are new every morning;” Lamentations 3:22-23

My Response: Jesus, my Jesus! The deep yearning I have is for Your return, Your Spirit within
me groans for Your return. Longingly, I will wait for you and the restoration that is to come as
promised. As I celebrate Jesus’ birth, as I celebrate what is to come… Your birth kicked off the
events shown in Revelation. Until then, I will wait as a grace-covered lamb of Jesus’ flock. I hold
fast to Your promise of steadfast love and endless mercy.

  • The steadfast love of the Lord is what sustains me. There is a chorus I learned when I was a new Christian and it has stuck with me. When I have no words or feel like I have lost connection I sing it to Him.
I love you, Lord and I lift my voice to worship You. Oh my soul rejoice. Take joy, my King, in what you hear. May it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear.

  • Sharon’s Morning Thoughts: Hello to all who are a “a grace-covered lamb of Jesus’ flock.” What a beautiful way to put it, Melissa! Oh yes. Reading this passage twice was no hardship. Such a good reminder of both hardship and mercies new each morning!

My verse: Lamentations 3:31 “For no one is abandoned by the Lord forever.”

My response: Even in the darkest times, You are there. Your steadfast love never ceases, even when I can’t feel You or find You. NO ONE. No one is abandoned. And that brings hope and light to the darkness! Thank You, Father, for Your servant Jeremiah, who suffered for so long, yet never ever stopped trusting that You were still there, compassionate and loving.
