December 12 – John 14:15-30

Jesus, our Savior King, we praise You for You are Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace!!!! We thank You for You secure our peace! We fall before You in worship and adoration. Draw near to us, Lord of all.

What a comforting passage to read after yesterday’s Matthew 10 reading! If you were like me, you may have backed up to read verses 1-14, too. If not, go back and read those verses when you have time! This whole passage teaches us about the kind of peace He brings, the kind of peace He is. He did not come as a warrior to slay the oppressors and crush the rulers. No, He came to do so much more than that!! The Messiah came as a wee babe, likely surrounded by the lowly farm animals He created. He came with seemingly nothing.

The kind of peace He gives is a heart not troubled. Our church has a praise and worship night around Christmas time. It is quiet, the lights are dim, and festive decorations adorn the walls and little twinkling lights. And there comes a point in that service when I feel complete peace, and it washes over me like warm water, smoothing away mud and casting it back into the earth it came from. It is only for a time, and soon, the next day, that feeling does seem to wane, and then over time, often, it’s gone altogether. And I wish that I could have that moment again. And then the Spirit reminds me… that peace doesn’t come from worship time. It is not a feeling. It is not fleeting. Peace found in Jesus is so much greater than that! And then I go read John chapter 14.

This chapter is all about the promise that is Christ. It is a reminder to us, His children, that He knows what is coming for us. He knows the uncertainty, anxiety, and confusion that is to come and that we have yet to know. And ahead of its arrival, He gives us peace, comfort, and the Holy Spirit. What a God!!!! He cares about our tomorrow and our ten years from now so much that He is right here with us in our now. He is present. This kind of peace that only His kiddos know is supernatural and unattainable without Him. Peace does not have to be saved only for Christmas and Easter. Peace is for every minute of your day, for every fiber of your body. Peace is with you. Peace loves you. Peace will never, ever leave your side.

My Verse: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John 14:27

My Response: Jesus, I praise You! For You came not to bring peace to the world but to me and my spiritual siblings. You are supernatural, above all things, my comfort, my peace. Thank You for this reminder this Christmas of the deeper peace that You are. You are not superficial. You permeate every fiber of my being, and I adore You!

  • My verse: I am leaving you with a gift – peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

Father God. Your gift of peace is huge. I don’t have to be afraid or troubled when I remember I am firmly planted in Your family as Your beloved child. No matter the storms … I am always safe in You.
