October 26 – Revelation 3:7-13

Dear Lord God, we come before You in worship and praise, for You are the orchestrator of Your creation.  Be with us as we spend time with You, and guide us to what You want to show us.

The people in the Church of Philadelphia are the role models for us all, aren’t they? I love that they’ve been faithful to the Lord Jesus even though they have “little strength” (vs 8). See? We don’t have to be super strong, bold, brave, and mighty to please God. We just have to be faithful. 😊 The people of the Church of Philadelphia both obeyed God’s commands in His Word and did not deny Christ publicly. Jesus was quite clear that if we loved Him, we would then obey Him. There’s a definite correlation in Scripture between the two. If you have time, go back and read John’s Gospel: John 14:15-31. There’s no ambiguity here. To love Him means we want to bring Him joy and please Him. And that, of course, means obeying Him. And obeying Him is not only right … it’s actually for our good. We will live our very best lives when we follow our Creator’s directions.

I love that their rewards include a crown that no one can take away, a promise that they will be able to live in the Temple of God, that they will be citizens in the new Jerusalem, and that they will have His name on them. The ultimate reward is being with Love Himself – the One who made us, understands us, who gave us free will to choose or not choose, and the One who died so we could live with Him forever. There’s no reward greater than that.

My verse: Revelation 3:11, “I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown.”

My response: I am having so much fun with these two words: “hold on.” Thank You, Lord, for highlighting them for me during this particular season of my life. Keep me close. Keep me holding on, and thank You for holding on to me as well. I love being Your beloved child!
