November 29. Day Three

Advent

November 29 – Isaiah 9:1-7

Hope. Have you ever awakened in the middle of the night and been unable to get back to sleep? The darkness feels oppressive and endless. You either lie there and toss and turn, or you get up and turn on a light, but either way, it’s midnight-black outside. When the first flush of dawn appears outside your window, and you know the day is near, doesn’t your heart feel a stirring of hope? The long night is over and the day has come again. That’s the feeling we get from this beautiful prophecy passage in Isaiah. It won’t always be dark, God promises. A light is coming! We hear a mention of Galilee, where Jesus will spend much of His time. We are given the hope that when Jesus is born, a new reign will begin and then … never end. We still hope and wait for the final fulfillment of this, when “He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity (vs 7). He came and brought us peace with God. He will come again and bring final justice and mercy in the perfect measure someday soon. Let’s hold to that sure hope, today.

My verse: Isaiah 9:7 “His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity.”

My response: All hail King Jesus! Oh the glory and wonder of an eternal King, capable of ruling perfectly, in a realm where peace abides. How thankful I am that You are on the throne, Holy God, and that I belong to You and will live forever in Your kingdom.
