June 10. Psalm 8

Psalm 1 was instructive. It taught us where to plant ourselves and what activities to pursue. Psalm 8 is worship. We are instructed as we read David’s rich words in how to worship a mighty, majestic God! David was a shepherd before he was a king. He knew all about wilderness places and skies filled with stars on a quiet night. His love of God was nurtured in the wild places and in the loneliness that was often part of a shepherd’s life. God knew what David needed to prepare to be a king!

I am so thankful that God has a plan for your life and mine! Just like David’s life, ours have had many unexpected moments and reversals of fortune. Just like David’s each thing that happened to us and that will happen to us has been allowed for a purpose and can teach us and shape us for the future God has for us. We can trust Him in the wilderness. We can trust Him in the lonely times. Sometimes, we just need to look up and see what God has done in this vast and beautiful world into which we were born. Let’s make sure we have eyes to see the grandeur all around us that points to God! Paul tells us in Romans 1:20, For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Let’s watch God’s creation and learn more of Him through what He has made!

My verse: Psalm 8:3 “When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers – the moon and the stars you set in place –“

My response: Oh Father-God, Your created humans don’t look up enough! Bright lights and technology blind us to the night sky filled with the immenseness of Your creation. The heavens truly do declare Your glory, Lord! The vastness of all You have made. Help me to look up more dear Lord … remind me that You are big and I am small … and that You still, despite my smallness, care for and love on me.

When I think of all your creation in the heavens and
the earth, how can I not be in awe of Your majestic
powers, God? You are amazing and I never want to stop
    honoring and praising You.
Dear Father God, I worship You and will exalt You
above all else. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Oh, we need to look up more and more! The skies really do SHOUT of His glory, don’t they?
