June 1. 2 Samuel 12:1-25
Today, we read about Solomon’s inauspicious beginnings. He was born to a couple that had created a huge scandal in Israel. His older brother did not live long. And here is this second child born to David and Bathsheba, a comfort to his mother who had lost so much: her first husband, her reputation, her firstborn son.

I chose 2 Samuel 12:1-25 as my verse: “Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and he went to her and lay with her. She gave birth to a son, and they named him Solomon. The LORD loved him”
My response: Oh Father, Solomon was such a gift to Bathsheba, who’d lost Uriah and her baby. We have no way of knowing how she felt about the adultery. We do know she grieved the death of her little one. And then, right in the middle of this messy story, You show up with love for this little boy and demonstrate Your big forgiveness. You heard David’s repentant heart and You forgave and brought comfort and renewed hope to this couple. It’s such a story of redemption and totally undeserved favor. Oh, God, You are so merciful.
