June 28. Ecclesiastes 12.
Dear fellow student of God's Word, we have reached the end of this study together and I hope He has spoken to you in powerful and meaningful ways. Would you please consider emailing me to let me know you followed this on the website? I'd like to know if this is something that is helpful so I know whether or not to do it again. If I don't hear from anyone ... I'll assume that no one read this and just do a Facebook version next time. So ... if you'd like to be included in our next study on the website ... if you would like there to BE a next study on the website ... either comment below or PLEASE email me: firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks, friend! Glad you journeyed with me.
This last chapter of Ecclesiastes has some pretty vivid and grim descriptions about advanced aging, doesn't it? I thought it very clever as Solomon covered cataracts, deafness, lost teeth and dull teeth. Yikes! I liked his main point, though. Don't wait to know God until you are that old. Know Him in your youth, when you can serve Him with strength and Joy!
My verse: Ecclesiastes 12:13 "Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man."
My response: Oh Father, it comes down to knowing and honoring You. That's it. All the stuff we accumulate? We leave behind. The only permanent and sure foundation is You. And at the very end of our lives, before our new beginning in Heaven, "our spirit returns to God (You) who gave it."(vs 7) Oh Lord! Help me to keep You first all the days of my life here on earth and then ... forever.
