Seeking Jesus Day Six - Mark 3:20-35

Here we are on Week Two, friends! This week will be a full 7 days of exciting highlights in Jesus busy ministry of serving the people God puts in His path. I hope you had a chance to look at the video summarizing where we've just been and what we have learned so far about the Lord Jesus. If not, check it out sometime today! We are learning about a sensitive issue, today. Family troubles! Yes, Jesus had them, too. Let's re-read Mark 3:20-"One time Jesus entered a house, and the crowds began to gather again. Soon he and his disciples couldn’t even find time to eat. When his family heard what was happening, they tried to take him away. “He’s out of his mind,” they […] Read more »

Seeking Jesus Day Five - Mark 3:1-19

Well, look at YOU! You've finished our abbreviated Week One of this study. Well done! I've been collecting thoughts and notes on Jesus this first week. Watch later today for a video discussing what I've learned. As you listen, perhaps you will have something to contribute as well in the comments. I hope so! After all, we are "Seeking Jesus" in this study. Let's learn more and more about Him, shall we? There were several things that stood out to me in today's reading. First of all, those crowds. Whoa. Big enough and unwieldy enough to crush a person. You know, I suspect miracle healings were not any more common back then than they are now. And when you start to bump into your neighbor […] Read more »

Seeking Jesus Day Four - Mark 2:18-28

Hello dear ones! How is the study going for you? I hope that you are enjoying the comments here on this page, and that God is speaking to you personally and uniquely each day as you meet with Him. Today, let's talk for a bit about how Jesus pushed back on legalism and brought in a new way of doing life. You see, when we just follow the rules, we get trapped by them. We start measuring ourselves and our worth by how smart we are at being exactly perfect at rules-keeping. When we fail, which we inevitably do, we beat ourselves up and drown in shame at times. This is not God's way! Jesus said in Mark 2:22, "And no one puts new wine […] Read more »

Seeking Jesus Day Three - Mark 2:1-17

How are your readings going, friend? I hope every day is one of discovery as you seek to know Jesus better. Today, I was fascinated by how Jesus gave the gift of forgiveness of sins first and only after that, the gift of healing to the paralytic. In our earthly minds, it's almost a shock when He forgives the crippled man. We are waiting for the healing, but Jesus sees the deeper need and the greater gift. I also loved how He did not let the opinions of the crowd sway Him. He just went about His Father's business of teaching and healing and forgiving. Our Savior walked with authority and calm, didn't He? My recorded verse: Mark 2:17 " When Jesus heard this, he […] Read more »

Seeking Jesus Day Two - Mark 1:21-45

Well. I'll tell you one thing that stands out to me in this second reading in Mark. Jesus was busy! He taught in the synagogues and healed the sick and cast out demons. He touched lepers with compassion. His days were full and the crowds were growing! No wonder Mark uses the word "amazed" a lot. What Jesus was doing was out of the ordinary. He was different from the other rabbis, whose typical style at the time was to teach by asking questions and mulling things over with their students. Nope. Jesus didn't mull. He spoke with the authority of being in charge of it all. And people noticed! I can't wait to hear what you are noticing, friends. Be sure to write in […] Read more »

Seeking Jesus Day One - Mark 1:1-20

Hello dear fellow adventurer!  How was your reading time this morning? Were you able to read the passage uninterrupted? Or ... did you struggle with various and sundry family members' needs before you were actually able to find those ten minutes to sit and study the beginning of Mark? However hard it was or wasn't, I hope God met you as you sought Him in this dynamic little book! Did you notice that—unlike the other gospels—Mark ignores Jesus' birth and beginnings and starts instead with Jesus' public ministry? Mark's focus is clear. Mark wants us to see how Jesus came to serve. So, his focus is solely on the last three years of Jesus' life on earth. Mark introduces us to John the Baptist in […] Read more »

“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life ….” —Deuteronomy 30:19-20a NLT At times, we all struggle with choices. Perhaps two job possibilities both look promising. Maybe two volunteer positions have need, but you only have time for one. Or … it could be as simple as the choice whether to wear the long-sleeved shirt or the short-sleeved one with the weather looking rather iffy. […] Read more »
