Seeking Jesus Day Twelve - Mark 6:30-56

Well. If we hadn't yet figured it out, it now becomes quite clear why Jesus often asked healed people not to spread the news! Jesus and His disciples are working past the point of exhaustion and the crowds just don't stop coming, do they? Even when they try to get away ... the crowds track them down. And yet. What did you think of Jesus' response? Mark 6:34 tells us "Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things." I am in awe of the many things. He loved this crowd and His compassion was so great that He taught them fully. […] Read more »

Seeking Jesus Day Eleven - Mark 6:1-29

Happy Friday, friend! I hope you have a lovely rhythm going by now in your daily time with God. How are you at weekends? Those were harder for me when I was first trying to establish a daily time with God. I found that if I promised Him my "first available minute" even on a weekend, I was able to meet with Him fairly early in the day. I am so GLAD you are studying this great fast-paced book with me! I'd like to highlight Herod's response to reports of Jesus healing people. Did you notice his fear? He thought John the Baptist had come back to life! His guilt was eating at him. The ugly truth about the devil is that after he tempts […] Read more »

Seeking Jesus Day Ten - Mark 5:21-43

There are sooo many special things to say about today's reading that I hardly know where to begin. First of all, I love how Jesus was "stoppable" in that crowd, despite a legitimate need to hurry. Because He trusted God's plan for every moment of His day, when He felt power leave His body, He knew that something significant had happened so He stopped and dealt with it. Right then. I love how He called the woman with the constant horrid bleeding "Daughter." I love how He showed her she was worthy of notice. She did not have to slink away feeling "less than." I love her faith! She believed in His power so much she was sure if she could just touch the hem […] Read more »

Seeking Jesus Day Nine - Mark 5:1-20

Hello dear seeker of Jesus! What did you think of this slightly scary story today? I am not sure I would have felt all that safe near the man possessed by so many demons. And yet, how dreadful for him! The Bible is pretty clear that demons are real. I've pondered why Jesus agreed to let this legion of demons enter the herd of pigs, and I wonder if part of the reason was to demonstrate that they were real. The man wasn't just out of his mind. Real spiritual beings were inside him and when they left him, they went into the pigs. And then the pigs were drowned. Jesus is greater and more powerful than any demon. And when HE lives in us, […] Read more »

Seeking Jesus Day Eight - Mark 4:21-41

Hey friend, we got to study out more parables today in our lesson today. Some of those parables were sobering. "Whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed" for example. There are no secrets we can keep from God. Ever. He knows. And yet, knowing, He loves us! The kingdom of heaven parables make me realize that much of how God's kingdom grows is still a mystery to me. How about you? Toward the end of our reading, we get to the terrifying storm. But you know what was even more terrifying? Seeing Jesus rebuke a storm and instantly be obeyed. From raging seas and crashing winds to utter calm in a nano-second. I love the way the NLT puts it as the disciples saw […] Read more »

Seeking Jesus Day Seven - Mark 4:1-20

Hello dear one. Happy Monday! How are your readings going? Are you remembering to start with a Request of God, asking for His help in understanding? That makes ALL the difference for me, when I am reading a passage. Today, let's talk about parables, shall we? I have long pondered Jesus comment about them, quoting Old Testament scripture (Isaiah 6:9-10). Here is what He said in Mark 4:11-12:  He replied, “You are permitted to understand the secret of the Kingdom of God. But I use parables for everything I say to outsiders,  so that the Scriptures might be fulfilled: ‘When they see what I do,     they will learn nothing. When they hear what I say,     they will not understand. Otherwise, they will turn to me     and be forgiven.’” […] Read more »

God-Focused Prayer. Look Up.

Four-part series: Pursuing an Effective Personal Prayer Life. Our foundational goal here at Sweet Selah Ministries is to encourage daily quiet times with God. We are all about the sweetness that comes when we selah (stop) and simply choose to be with God for a short while—or a long while. Our time alone with Him fuels us for the rest of the day. We meet God through the pages of His living Word, the Bible. We read and meditate and write to Him about what He says to us in the pages of the Book of books. And then we pray. In this series on pursuing an effective personal prayer life, we are going to look at three different types of prayer and help you […] Read more »
